Shawn Powell (b. 1978) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his MFA in painting from Hunter College in 2008 where he was presented a Tony Smith Award Grant. In 2005, Powell obtained his BFA in art history and painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. He presented solo exhibitions in 2014 at Chapter NY and Westchester Community College, State University of New York. Shawn Powell has been included in group exhibitions at The Fabric Workshop and Museum , PA, Harbor, NY, Brooklyn Fireproof, NY, the Nina Freudenheim Gallery, Buffalo-NY, and La Esquina, Kansas City, MO. In 2017, he presented a solo exhibition at 106 Green , and participated with 106 Green at NADA NY. This summer he will be showing work with The Provincial in Kaleva, Michigan, and will mount his second solo show this year at Webster University in St. Louis. In December, his work will be displayed with the St. Louis based gallery Duet, at the Satellite Art Fair in Miami, Florida.
