Shawn Powell received his MFA in painting from Hunter College where he was presented a Tony Smith Award Grant, and obtained his BFA in art history and painting from the Kansas City Art Institute.   He has presented solo exhibitions at 106 Green (Brooklyn, NY),  Chapter NY (New York, NY), Webster University (St. Louis, MO), and Westchester Community College, State University of New York (Valhalla, NY).  Shawn Powell has been included in group exhibitions at The Fabric Workshop and Museum , PA,  Harbor, NY,  Brooklyn Fireproof, NY,  the Nina Freudenheim Gallery, Buffalo-NY, and La Esquina, Kansas City, MO.  After teaching painting and foundations as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Hunter College for a decade, and living and working in Brooklyn, New York for thirteen years, he is now an Assistant Professor in painting at Kent State University.
